The ball rolled this Sunday (20), at Campo do Alto da Torre, to define 3rd place in the Copa Salvador Interbairros, promoted by the City of Salvador through the Secretariat of Social Promotion, Combating Poverty, Sports and Leisure (Semper), in partnership with the Bahian Football Federation (FBF) and Neighborhood Municipalities.

On a morning of great excitement, with community interaction and family members who came together to support the teams, the Uruguay Boa Vista League won 1-0 over LNV Catalonia in the Under-15 category. Then, the Liga Arraiense won 2×0 over the Liga São Marcos and won the Free category.

Immediately after the matches, medals and trophies were handed out. The Uruguayan Boa Vista League received a check for R$5,000 from the head of Semper, Júnior Magalhães, and the Liga Arraiense team received a prize worth R$10,000.

“We reissued the Copa Salvador Interbairros as a way of integrating communities and neighborhoods through sport and encouraging football, especially amateur football, as we know that the city is a great source of athletes. There are 40 teams that participated in the entire World Cup, with more than 1,200 athletes, showing the success of the project, which is making Salvador aware of great talents”, highlighted Junior Magalhães, adding that the competition in total had R$ 100 thousand in award and is already on the city’s official sports calendar.

Rian Santos Matos, 15 years old, champion of the Uruguay Boa Vista League, without hiding his emotion, stated his desire to be able to continue dreaming of becoming a talent in football.

“I would like to thank the project that gave me the opportunity to participate in this championship, and it is very important for me, we gave our best on the field. Furthermore, this project is very important because it ends up taking us out of the wrong environment, from the outside, where everyone knows what they have, right? And then these football schools in all the neighborhoods also end up bringing hope for us to be able to dream and believe that we will fulfill our dream of being a player, right?”, he said.

The same said Luiz Carlos, also 15 years old, captain of the winning team and scorer of the winning goal. “This championship was very important for everyone who came here to compete. We had a lot of fun, it’s a championship that doesn’t have fights, we’ve been coming together a lot here between our team and the opponent’s team. So, this is very important, even for us who are coming from below here, to learn several things by learning the game, and our concern is to compete, always, looking for a better future”, he highlighted.

The Interbairros Cup started on June 9th and had the participation of 40 teams, 20 from the Under-15 category and 20 from the Free category. 1,200 athletes participated in the entire competition, all amateurs and non-federated, who played matches in 10 regions of the city.
