WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to customize the application’s colors, abandoning the traditional green and white that has accompanied it since its launch. According to the WABetaInfo website, the new feature offers a wide range of options to customize the appearance of the application, with 22 colorful themes and 20 different colors to personalize chats. However, the feature is in a testing version for Android and iOS and may not reach the final version of the app.
With the new functionality, users can choose between pre-defined themes, which combine a stylized wallpaper with a tone for the message bubbles. For those who prefer greater control over the app’s appearance, WhatsApp offers the option to customize colors individually.
The color changes apply to all conversations on the app, but WhatsApp allows users to customize each chat individually. Color customization is currently only available to users enrolled in the WhatsApp beta program for Android and iOS. The beta program allows the company to test new features with a limited group of users before releasing them to the general public. This approach allows you to identify and fix potential issues and collect user feedback to improve the experience before the official launch.
There is still no forecast of when color customization will be released to all WhatsApp users. The company usually tests new features in beta for a few weeks or months before releasing them globally.
How to participate in the beta program
To sign up for the WhatsApp beta program, users must visit the app’s page on the Google Play Store or App Store and look for the “Beta Program” section. If spaces are available, users will be able to sign up and receive beta versions of the application, with early access to new functionalities and resources. However, it is important to note that beta versions may contain errors and instabilities, and that features being tested may be modified or removed before the official release.
Users with access to WhatsApp Beta can now change the topic of conversations. To do this, open the app and tap “Settings”. After that, go to “Conversations” and then to “Conversation topic”. Then, just choose one of the available themes or customize the colors of the wallpaper and messages. To change the colors for a specific chat, open the conversation, tap the contact’s name, and select “Conversation Theme.”
