This is how family and friends will remember João Rebello Fernandes, 45, former TV Globo child actor, who was murdered while waiting for a friend in Trancoso. João Rebello was a DJ and lived in southern Bahia with his partner. He leaves behind a teenage son, who lives in Rio de Janeiro. After the violent death, celebrities used social media to express condolences.

Actor Renato Rabelo was one of the first to speak out, in the early hours of this Friday (25). On his Instagram profile, he characterized the crime as another act of violence. “My God, what sad news about João Rebello’s departure!! Another act of violence in our country and in a tourist paradise that is Trancoso! No words to comfort the dear @rebellomaria and @mariacarol.rebello, I am astonished! God bless and comfort to everyone at this very painful moment! My sincere condolences!” he wrote.

João Rebello’s mother, Maria Rebello, commented on the post and said she was unable to sleep after her son’s death. “I can’t close my eyes! Thank you for the words, I’m awake alone and Carol went to Trancoso! Violent land! They killed by mistake they confused the car! He was living in a city where it seemed like a peaceful life with his wife, Karine, playing, doing party with your sweetness. My mourning will be eternal”, published the actress and director.

Actress Fabiana Karla also spoke out. “My God. I can’t believe it. God comfort @rebellomaria @mariacarol.rebello”, he wrote. Carol is João’s sister and also lives in Bahia. She went to Trancoso after learning of her brother’s death. There is still no information about the burial. Friends and family of João Rebello deny that he was involved in drug trafficking of the region.

Who also showed solidarity was the actor and musician Lucio Mauro Filho, who made a post on his Instagram profile. “I wake up to the news of João Rebello’s departure, in such a brutal way, that I can’t even organize my emotions. Last night I slept with a knot in my chest, seeing the news from my Rio so punished by violence. Now João, with this tragic death in a paradise like Trancoso”, he said.

“How sad! May God comfort the heart of Maria, his mother. My condolences to João’s family, friends and admirers and also to the family and friends of the victims of violence in Rio”, he added. João Rebello was the nephew of TV director Jorge Fernando and acted in several TV Globo soap operas when he was a child.

One of the most notable roles in his career was in the soap opera Bebê a Bordo (1988). He also stood out in productions such as Vamp (1991), Deus nos Acuda (1992) and Cambalacho (1986). Away from TV since “Zazá” in 1997, he participated in Globo’s ‘Divertics’ in 2013.

The crime

Music producer and DJ João Rebello Fernandes, 45, was waiting for a friend when he was executed in Praça da Independência, on Thursday night (24). He was in a car when two men on a motorcycle approached and shot him at close range. The victim died at the scene. The Civil Police are investigating the authorship and motivation of the crime.

In a statement, the Civil Police of Bahia states that the case is investigated by the 1st Territorial Police Station of Porto Seguro. Guides for forensic examination and removal of the body were issued, while steps are taken to identify the perpetrator and clarify the motivation for the crime.
