A proposal to give singer Bruno Mars the title of honorary Brazilian citizen was delivered to the Chamber of Deputies on October 19, and may be approved by the National Congress. The purpose of the request is to recognize the ‘unity and joy’ promoted by the artist among Brazilians, who created great affection for Bruno in his last visit to the country.

The request was made by federal deputy Reginaldo Veras (PV-DF), who highlighted Bruno’s impact in presenting the proposal. “In his performances, the singer spared no effort to demonstrate his love for Brazil, incorporating elements of our culture into his performances and interacting with fans in a warm and authentic way. The positive impact that Bruno Mars had on our country is undeniable, and The granting of honorary citizenship is a way of thanking him for his contribution and strengthening ties between Brazil and the United States”, stated the deputy.

In the year 2024, Bruno announced 15 shows in Brazilian territory, seven in São Paulo, three in Rio de Janeiro, two in Brasília and Curitiba, and one in Belo Horizonte. Furthermore, the singer transformed his first show in Brazil of the new tour into a charity event to raise funds in support of the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul.

Bruno raised, in partnership with Budweiser, R$1 million for flood victims. “A gesture that moved everyone and showed the strength of his influence for the common good”, mentions the proposal.

As the months went by, Bruno strengthened his relationship with Brazil, creating special content for the country, watching games at the Maracanã stadium, and even visiting bars in São Paulo. In his show at The Town, he sang “Evidências”, a famous Brazilian song by Chitãozinho and Xororó, accompanied by the artists, in addition to playing “Cheia de Manias”, by the band Raça Negra, with Thiaguinho.

“Brazil is the only place in the world where they call me Bruninho. And I promise you that we would love to come back here and I promise you, Rio, I will always, always be your Bruninho. Thank you very much!”, declared Bruno at a show in the country.

The same title of honorary citizen has already been granted to Lewis Hamilton, a British racing driver. This means that the title holder has no rights or duties in the country, but receives recognition for their relationship with Brazil.

“By granting Bruno Mars the title of honorary citizen, we recognize not only his artistic excellence, but also his ability to promote unity and joy among Brazilians. His music transcends borders and connects us with the world, strengthening national identity” , the order states.
