A 41-year-old Brazilian woman died as a result of feminicide in Émerainville, France, this Thursday, the 24th, according to the French press. Her husband, also Brazilian, is the main suspect of committing the crime; he tried to hang himself shortly after the incident and was taken to the hospital. There is no confirmation about his health status.

Help was called by one of the woman’s three children, aged 17, who was injured when trying to help his mother, who was stabbed to death. Two children witnessed the crime.

According to the TV Globo affiliate in Espírito Santo, the woman was called Juliana de Oliveira Salomão. Born in Nova Venécia, Espírito Santo, she lived in France for more than five years with her husband and three children.

The victim’s sister, Danielle Pigatti, gave a TV interview and reported that Juliana was in the process of separating after suffering domestic violence and had obtained a protective measure against her husband, who had not lived in the same house for around three months.

The family started a fundraiser on social media to raise money to bring Juliana’s body to Brazil and help her two minor children. According to TV Globo, the man also died.

“Dead from several stab wounds in the throat and neck inflicted by her companion,” wrote the newspaper Le Parisien. According to Radio France International (RFI), the prosecutor responsible for the case, Jean-Baptiste Bladier, stated that “the death was clearly the result of multiple stab wounds”, mainly to the neck and back of the head, but the French police are awaiting the results of the autopsy, carried out by the Paris Legal Medical Institute, where the body was taken.

The prosecutor told RFI that shortly after the police found the woman’s body, the husband was found “hanging in the basement of the building” where the victim lived. The police were called by one of the woman’s three children, a 17-year-old boy. “He explained that his father, a Brazilian, born in 1980, stabbed his mother,” the prosecutor told French radio. “The young man was also injured when trying to protect his mother,” the vehicle states.

Another son of the couple, aged 14, was also in the house at the time of the crime, but was not injured, according to RFI. The two minors underwent medical care and will be assisted by social services in France. The victim’s third daughter, of legal age, would be in Brazil.

“A while ago, I don’t know exactly how long it was, he attacked her and she wanted to separate. He wanted to come back and she didn’t want to. Afterwards, they continued, but the attacks continued (..) In the last three months, she decided that he didn’t want it anymore, he didn’t accept (the attacks). They were living separately and had a protective measure”, Danielle reported to TV Gazeta, a Globo affiliate in Espírito Santo.

“It looks like he suffered a cut on his arm, but he’s out of danger,” said Danielle about her 17-year-old nephew, the victim’s son, who was injured during the episode.

According to the prosecutor’s report to RFI, the suspect’s criminal record does not mention convictions. “However, on July 25, 2024, he was arrested red-handed and placed in police custody for acts of domestic violence.”

Estadão contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for information on how the negotiations are going to bring Juliana’s body and the minors to Brazil, but has not yet received a response.

The report was unable to contact the victim’s family, nor with the defense of the suspect of committing the crime. The space remains open.
