The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha (PT) stated that what marked the 2024 election was re-election and that re-elected mayors took advantage of the policies, financial transfers and the good economic moment promoted by the government of Luís Inácio Lula da Silva ( PT) in a press conference at the Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) committee this Sunday, 27th. “It’s the highest re-election rate in the country’s history,” he said.
“It was the largest transfer from the municipalities’ participation fund, a record with more than 20% compared to last year”, stated the minister. “In addition to the record transfer of resources from the federal government, the increase in Fundeb by 22%, the resumption of Minha Casa Minha Vida and the transfer through parliamentary amendments.” The minister said he will meet to renegotiate the amendments with leaders in Congress next Tuesday.
According to Padilha, another mark of the election is the defeat of former ministers from Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) government such as Marcelo Queiroga (PL) and Gilson Machado (PL). “Icons of the extreme right such as Bruno Engler, a disciple of Nikolas Ferreira (federal deputy, PL), were also defeated”, he highlighted.
Regarding the performance of the Workers’ Party, Padilha stated that the PT was the third party that grew the most in city halls. For him, the party will need to reflect, but Bolsonarism will also have to do so.
Padilha also criticized governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans). “I have never seen an action as criminal as that committed by Tarcísio.”
