More than 300 thousand people need to register or regularize their situation with the Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico) to continue receiving the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC). The deadline is 45 to 90 days, depending on the municipality of residence, counting from the date of official notification to the BPC beneficiary, which can happen through the banking network or through other channels.

“Pay attention to your statements and official government communications”, warned the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS). In this regularization cycle, beneficiaries began to be notified in August.

Since 2016, to receive the BPC, beneficiaries must be registered in the Single Registry and update their registration every two years. According to MDS, more than 200 thousand people who had their registration pending have already regularized their situation.

Currently, the program serves more than 6.02 million low-income citizens (with per capita family income equal to or less than a quarter of the minimum wage), including elderly people over 65 years of age and people with disabilities. Beneficiaries receive payment of a minimum wage.

The MDS advises anyone who had their BPC blocked due to lack of registration in the Single Registry to call 135, the official channel of the National Social Security Institute (INSS). The procedure will allow the BPC to be unlocked within 72 hours.

In the call, the beneficiary must inform that they are regularizing the situation in the Single Registry. After that, he will have a deadline to register or update his registration. The 135 center answers free cell phone and landline calls.

The deadline for registration or regularization is specified according to the size of the municipality where the person resides. For people living in municipalities with up to 50 thousand inhabitants, the regularization period is 45 calendar days. Beneficiaries residing in municipalities with more than 50 thousand inhabitants will have a longer period, with 90 calendar days.

In September, the government published an interministerial decree establishing new deadlines and procedures regarding the registration and registration updating of BPC beneficiaries. The deadlines were recalculated in accordance with Law No. 14,973/2024, which deals with various tax topics.

BPC beneficiaries who live in places with a public calamity situation recognized by the federal government, such as municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul, are exempt from the update requirement at this time.

For beneficiaries who were not registered in the Single Registry, but were registered in the Monthly Service Registry (RMA) and did not register as required, they have 30 days to regularize.

The Single Registry is a registry that allows the identification of low-income families in Brazil. It was created by the federal government, but is operationalized and updated by city halls, through the Unified Social Assistance System (Suas). To be covered by social programs, it is necessary to be registered and, every two years, update the registered information.
