Federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), candidate for mayor of São Paulo, read this Monday morning, the 21st, in the center of the capital, in front of the City Hall, a letter addressed to the population, focusing on entrepreneurs. In the document, the candidate recognizes that the left has stopped talking to a portion of the electorate that seeks to “find their own way of earning a living” and states that, if elected, he will have a policy aimed at “the periphery that he wants to undertake”.

As anticipated by Estadão, the document entitled “Letter to the People of São Paulo” is part of a series of actions that Boulos intends to carry out in this final stretch of the second round – as a commitment with vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), scheduled for today.

Furthermore, he announced the “turnaround caravan”, an initiative that will travel through the five regions of São Paulo, with the candidate sleeping in voters’ homes. “I’m going to travel around this city, in each region, talking to people from each area, who work in whatever way. People, including several of them, have already agreed to welcome me into their homes. I’m going to sleep in these people’s homes”, said Boulos , who faces in this second stage of the election the current mayor, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who is seeking re-election.

The strategy for publicizing the letter repeats a gesture made by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the past. In the 2002 campaign, the then PT presidential candidate launched the “Letter to the Brazilian People”, in which he committed to economic stability.

“I prepared myself to govern our city (…). I called Marta (Suplicy, from PT), with her administrative experience, to be my deputy and we brought together experts and managers who have served in governments from different parties. Our government will be one of dialogue and joint construction, without ties to any type of sectarianism”, states Boulos in the text.

In this second round, the PT transferred another R$15 million to the deputy, consolidating itself as the largest donor to Boulos’ campaign – in total, R$44.1 million.

A new survey by the Atlas institute, released yesterday, shows Nunes leading the voting intentions of voters in the city of São Paulo, with 54.8%; Boulos appears to have the preference of 42.2% of the São Paulo electorate.

Blank and invalid votes total 2.1%. Those interviewed who were unable to answer were 0.8%. Considering only valid votes, that is, disregarding voters who declared a blank, invalid vote or who did not know how to respond, the current mayor has 56.5% of intentions, compared to 43.5% for the federal deputy.

Atlas interviewed 2,000 voters in the capital of São Paulo between the 15th and 21st. The survey’s margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points, and the confidence index is 95%. The survey is registered with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) under number SP-02116/2024.
