Members of the Fundação Saúde board of directors made the positions available and the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, accepted. In a statement, the state government reported that the measure, in addition to bringing transparency, avoids interference in investigations into the case of transplant patients who were infected with the HIV virus.
“Governor Cláudio Castro accepted the resignation of the board of directors of the Health Foundation, presented this Monday morning (21). The measure increases transparency and ensures that there is no interference in the investigations already determined by the State Government”, said the note from Palácio Guanabara, headquarters of the government of Rio de Janeiro.
The new board, according to the Rio government, will be announced soon. “The State Department of Health is committed to preserving the provision of services to the population and, soon, the new board will be announced”, he concluded.
There is still no information whether there will be an extra edition of the Official State Gazette, this Monday (21), to publish the exonerations.
The public company Fundação Saúde was responsible for hiring, in December 2023, the Dr Saleme Clinical Pathology Laboratory (PCS Saleme), a private unit located in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense.
The announcement comes ten days after the publication of errors in the results of tests on blood samples from two organ donors carried out by PCS Saleme. The results came back negative, when in fact they were positive. Six patients who received organs from these donors in the Unified Health System (SUS) in Rio de Janeiro were infected with the HIV virus.
