Bahia has yet another direct confrontation in the Brazilian Championship. This Monday, coach Rogério Ceni’s team faces Vasco, at 9pm, in São Januário. In the fight between clubs that dream of winning a place in the next Libertadores, the tricolor is betting on its recent record to get the better of it and return from Rio de Janeiro with three points.

The Cruz-Maltino is usually a good opponent for the Squadron. So much so that the Bahian team hasn’t lost to the black and white team for two years. The last time happened in 2022: 1×0, away from home, in Series B. Since then, the teams have faced each other four times, with three Tricolor victories and one draw.

In the last ten games, the advantage is also blue, red and white. There were five triumphs for Bahia, three draws and just two victories for Vasco.

Even the São Januário stadium brings back good memories for Bahians. In the last duel in Rio de Janeiro, in last year’s Brazilian Championship, Thaciano scored the goal in the 1-0 victory applied by the Esquadrão.

During the clash played in the first round of this year’s Series A, the number 16 again leaked the Vasco nets. Estupiñan completed the score 2×1, while Paulo Henrique scored for the opponent.

Despite the good record, midfielder Cauly understands that the away match will not be easy. He highlighted, however, that achieving victory over Vasco is important in the fight for a place in the Libertadores.

“The next game, if we win, will be an important step towards achieving our goal […] If we manage to come out of there with the triumph, it will be a very important step”, he stated.

Bahia and Vasco are not so close in the table, but, at the moment, they are competing for the same goal. The Esquadrão is currently 7th in the Brasileirão, with 46 points, while the black and white team occupies 10th place, with 40.

It is worth remembering that the tricolor can benefit from the opening of more places for the Libertadores via Série A. In the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo and Atlético-MG compete in the final and, if the red-black team wins and finishes the Brasileirão in the top six , G6 will become G7. Currently, the Rio club is in 4th place.

Another vacancy may arise thanks to the Libertadores itself. Botafogo and Atlético-MG built a good lead in the first legs of the semi-final and can compete for the trophy. If Glorioso, who are the leaders of Série A, take the continental trophy, the classification zone for Liberta 2025 should increase. If Galo wins the international tournament and the national knockout stage, it will also guarantee a G7 in the Brasileirão.

Bahia has eight more games to achieve its goal of returning to the Libertadores after 35 years. Afterwards, four matches will be away from home and another four at home.

After the duel against Vasco, the Squadron will return to Salvador to face São Paulo. The CBF confirmed that the match will be at Fonte Nova, on November 5th.
