An armed group invaded the committee of councilor Manoel Jacaré (PP), in the district of Monte Gordo, in Camaçari, in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (RMS), this Saturday (26). The councilor is a supporter of the candidate for mayor of the municipality, Flávio Matos (União Brasil).

The violent episode happened shortly before 10:30 am today. Security camera footage shows at least four armed men arriving at the scene. They wear dark clothes, cover their faces and some are wearing hats, to make identification difficult.

According to initial information, the bandits stole objects from the location. The report contacted the Civil Police to obtain more details about the investigation, but has not yet heard back.

National vice-president of União Brasil, ACM Neto expressed his rejection of the violent episode. “What happened this morning, in Camaçari, is unacceptable and is just one of many violent attacks that took place against the campaign of candidate Flávio Matos. A serious episode that demonstrates how much our opponents exceeded all the limits of an electoral contest that should be marked by respect and the principles of democracy, but which, unfortunately, will be remembered as the most violent campaign in the history of Camaçari”, he said.

In a statement published on social media, councilor Manoel Jacaré stated that the committee was the target of a criminal action and said that the criminals “took some of our belongings”. “We would like to reassure everyone that, fortunately, no one was injured and we are all safe,” he added.

“We are immensely grateful for the expressions of solidarity and concern we have received, which strengthen our team at this difficult time,” wrote Jacaré.
