Brazilian Antony suffered a heavy blow in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Fenerbahçe, this Thursday, in a Europa League game. With just over 15 minutes on the field, he had to leave the pitch on a stretcher. Upset by the injury to the athlete’s left leg, coach Erik ten Hag regretted the episode.
“It’s really bad luck for him,” Ten Hag said on Friday. “I feel real compassion for Antony, as he worked and dedicated himself a lot in training”, added the Manchester United coach.
After the match, the striker revealed by São Paulo left the Istanbul stadium wearing a protective boot and walking with the aid of crutches. The player will now be evaluated by the club’s medical department.
A more accurate diagnosis of the severity of the injury, however, will only be possible after 24 hours. Working to regain a starting position in the team, Antony entered the second half of the game against Fenerbahçe, replacing Rashford, in the 27th minute. At 39, after making a pass on the right side of the attack, he fell on the field.

Antony had stood out in the team’s last training sessions after ten Hag publicly criticized his lack of application. This season, he played just one game as a starter and entered the field four more times off the bench.
In the English Championship, Manchester is far from fighting for the top positions. With just 11 points and in 12th place, the red team will challenge West Ham, on Sunday, away from home.
