An anteater lost on the side of BA-001 was rescued by firefighters in Vera Cruz, Bahia, this Wednesday (23). A passerby who was passing by saw the animal and notified teams from the 5th Military Fire Brigade.
The anteater was in Mar Grande when firefighters arrived at the scene. They identified the animal amid the traffic of vehicles on the highway. Firefighters captured the animal safely and with appropriate equipment.
After the rescue, he was evaluated and had no injuries. He was then released to a safe location.
Firefighters are advised that, if citizens notice an animal outside its natural habitat, they should not capture it without specialized training. The best option is to call the firefighters via central 193.
