Singer hid the case from family and friends

Anitta made a strong outburst about sexual abuse she suffered when she was just 14 years old. According to the singer, the crime was committed by a known person, which made her blame herself for what happened. Traumatized, she hid the story from her family.

“When I was a teenager, around 14 years old, I lost my virginity being abused by someone I knew. For me, it was a mix of feelings. I didn’t know how to react, I didn’t tell my family, anyone… I only lived with that for many years”, he said during an interview with the program A Great Day with J Balvin.

The singer also said that she had to deal with everything alone, as she didn’t know how to tell friends and family what happened. “At that moment, I felt so dirty, miserable and guilty. I had an image in my mind, a dream, of how it should be, and it wasn’t. I blamed myself”, she added.

When asked why she blamed herself for the rape, Anitta explained: “In our society, we women are trained to feel that everything is our fault. It’s because you dress like that, or behave like that… when a woman is abused, they ask: ‘What did she do to be abused? What was she using? How was she behaving?'”, he began.

“If a guy cheats on a girl, [pensam:] ‘She wasn’t good enough for him, he was looking for something else.’ If a woman cheats on her guy, [falam:] ‘My God, this woman is dirty’. I think that, for us, it is always a position of being underestimated and needing to meet expectations. So, that’s why I feel like it might be more difficult for us. There’s always a reason. It’s never the guy’s fault. We always do something for the guy to do that”, he added.
