A total of 40,418 voters (19.63%) were left out of the unprecedented second round of the municipal election in Camaçari, a city located in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador. The number of abstentions was 1.14% higher compared to the first round, held on October 6, when 38,073 voters (18.49%) failed to attend the electoral colleges.
The data was released by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) based on information from the Regional Electoral Court of Bahia (TRE-BA), which finished counting the votes at 7pm this Sunday (27). In total, the electorate eligible to vote in Camaçari was 204,865 people, according to the TSE.
In the 540 sections, 165,447 voters attended (80.37%), of which 158,350 (95.71%) were responsible for voting for the candidates who ran in the election, 5,143 (3.11%) voted null and 1,954 (1.18% ) voted blank. The number of invalid and blank votes was lower this Sunday compared to the first round, when Camaçari recorded 7,270 invalid votes (4.33%) and 3,167 blank votes (1.89%).
For Marina do Socorro Carvalho, general secretary of the TRE-BA presidency, the second round of the municipal election in Camaçari took place quickly, transparently and efficiently. “It went the way we predicted. We had well-planned logistics: we changed the ballot boxes from the first round to this second round, we brought a very large team from Salvador, we had the support of judges, magistrates from the 171 zones and civil servants. We concluded that this second round was really very successful”, he highlighted.
With regard to the tense atmosphere in the city, which even recorded the occurrence of robbery and invasion of the committee of councilor Manoel Jacaré (PP) last Saturday (26), while colleagues from União Brasil parties were organizing the dispute scheme for the second round, Marina do Socorro stated that there is no chance of signs of violence interfering with the validity of the election.
“There is no possibility of annulling the election. All information and all signs of violence were pointed out to electoral judges and all measures were immediately taken,” he said.
Throughout the day, four ballot boxes had a synchronization defect, but were replaced. One of them, in fact, was responsible for a small delay in the count, being the last one to arrive at the Clemente Mariani Electoral Forum, at around 6:50 pm. All votes, however, were counted by 7pm, the time scheduled by TRE.
