The trial of American rapper A$AP Rocky, 36, accused of assault with a firearm, may be filmed, decided Judge Mark S. Arnold, responsible for the case. “I believe the public has a right to see what happens in court,” the judge said.

Previously scheduled to begin on November 12th in a Los Angeles court, the trial, which is expected to last around two weeks, was postponed to January 21st of next year, as requested by the rapper’s lawyers in a hearing held on Tuesday , 22. The reason is that he will be headlining the Rolling Loud festival, in Thailand, in November.

A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is accused of assault and possession of a weapon during an alleged shooting in Hollywood, United States, in November 2021. The rapper allegedly fired two shots at his former friend, A $AP Relli, during a fight, causing a “minor injury,” according to police.

He was detained in April 2022 at Los Angeles airport, after disembarking from a private jet, but was released after paying bail of around 550 thousand dollars (approximately R$3.14 million at the current exchange rate). He pleaded not guilty.

A$AP is Rihanna’s boyfriend, with whom he has two children, RZA, aged 2, and Riot, aged 1. The judge asked lawyer Joe Tacopina, from the rapper’s defense, if the singer intends to attend the trial, so that he can take appropriate security measures. The lawyer said he doesn’t know, but that the singer probably won’t be present every day of the process.

Outside the courthouse where the hearing was held, Tacopina told the press that he is confident the rapper will clear his name. Despite the delay, Mayers is said to be “looking forward to going to trial. Having that hanging over his head is not something he wants.”

The rapper had already been arrested previously, after getting involved in a fight in Sweden, in June 2019. At the time, he was convicted of assault by the country’s courts, but released from prison after trial.
