With the date of the most competitive entrance exams in the country approaching, students who want to secure a place at the most sought-after universities need to organize themselves to study in a qualified manner and to take the test efficiently.
In this context, Rinaldo Lamare Quaresma, pre-university coordinator at Fibonacci Sistema de Ensino, presents 6 fundamental guidelines for candidates to better manage their time, remain calm and plan in the best way to achieve a good grade in the selection tests. Check it out!
1. Avoid distractions
Time is a precious resource during any test. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate uses it strategically. In this sense, Quaresma gives tips to avoid distractions: go to the bathroom before the exam starts; avoid heavy snacks that may cause discomfort and bring a large bottle of water to avoid going out during the process.
2. Write the essay in the middle of the test
When is the ideal time to write the exam essay? This is one of the most frequent doubts among college students, and the answer to it is simple: the ideal is to write the text between areas of knowledge, such as languages and humanities.
Start with the area in which you feel most confident, as this will “warm up” your reasoning before tackling the creation of the dissertation-argumentative text. After completing the essay, proceed to the other area of the exam. This method helps to maintain the pace and avoid leaving writing until you are more tired.
3. Manage your time well
The ideal time per question is approximately three minutes. This division prevents the candidate from spending too much time on specific questions and ensures that they can all be answered. If one seems too difficult, the best thing, according to the expert, is to move on to the next one and come back to it later. For writing, the time to be dedicated must be greater. Set aside an hour, but be careful with the time spent so as not to compromise the rest of the test. Remember: planning is essential.

4. Estratégia
Always start the test with the questions you master, this will guarantee points and reduce pressure, improving your confidence to face the more challenging questions. Starting with the difficult ones can result in a waste of time and an accumulation of stress, compromising the rest of the test.
“Ask the simplest questions first and don’t insist on more complex questions. If there is time left, you return to them”, points out the coordinator. Furthermore, an important tip: after answering, always re-read the question command to check if your answer really answers the question, avoiding falling into traps.
5. Remain calm during the test
Anxiety and nervousness are common, especially with more complicated issues. To deal with these feelings, remember all your preparation: the hours of study, the solved exercises, your perseverance and commitment throughout the year, the memory of all this effort will strengthen you to perform a good test.
Furthermore, it is important to keep in mind that it is normal not to know how to resolve all the questions, and this should not demotivate you. Practice breathing techniques, this can also be an effective action to maintain focus and reduce anxiety;
6. Care the day before the test
The day before the exam, the most important thing is to rest, according to the expert. Reviewing content can generate more stress and hinder your performance. “The ideal is to relax, watch a film or have a relaxed conversation with friends and family. Organize all the necessary material, such as documents, pens, bottle of water and snacks, the night before, this will avoid unforeseen events and guarantee a peaceful night’s sleep”, he highlights.
Success in the entrance exam depends not only on knowledge, but also on a good strategy and emotional control. “By following these tips, students will be better prepared to face the exam with confidence. With planning and focus, it is possible to achieve an excellent grade and secure a place at the desired university”, concludes Quaresma.
