Practicing regular physical activity is extremely recognized for its considerable benefits for general health. However, despite this awareness, 52% of Brazilians do not practice it regularly. Among those who exercise, only 8% follow the minimum recommendation of twice a week, as revealed by the Health and Work Survey, carried out by the Social Service of Industry (SESI).

But, in addition to the more traditional benefits, such as improving the cardiovascular system and sleep, losing weight and gaining muscle mass, regular physical exercise has much deeper impacts on our health.

“But, in fact, physical activity brings many other positive effects on health that most people don’t even know about, and knowing about these extra benefits also helps to give more motivation to start and maintain an exercise routine”, explains the personal trainer and educator physicist Tauan Gomes.

Benefits of physical activity

1. Decreases appetite

Prolonged intense physical exercise helps to suppress appetite for up to 12 hours, which helps with weight control.

2. Helps you sleep better

Any physical activity promotes an improvement in sleep quality, due to the increased production of adenosine, a hormone that regulates vigilance.

3. Improves sexual performance

Cardio training increases performance, and strength training increases libido, in addition to improving mood, due to the release of the hormones oxytocin and serotonin.

4. Improves productivity

Intense physical activity, for at least 30 minutes a day, promotes increased energy, focus and productivity for daily tasks.

5. Promotes gut health

Exercising improves the functioning of the digestive process and combats intestinal inflammation.

1. Daily Step Goals

4,000 steps a day help reduce the risk of a sedentary lifestyle, while 7,000 to 10,000 steps a day helps the weight loss process.

2. Do not consume stimulating foods after 4 pm

The quality of your sleep will directly impact your next day. So, start by taking care of yourself at the end of the day to improve your habits the next day.

3. Participate in groups

Participate in support groups with activities such as dancing, hiking, martial arts, running and other sports.

4. Seek professional help

Professional help helps you find an activity that makes sense for your goals and reality.

5. Hydration and stretching

Drink 500 ml of water when you wake up and practice 10 minutes of stretching. This practice will encourage the introduction of good habits for the rest of the day.
