Cousin Cícero (Haroldo Guimarães) will honor his reputation as a ‘ghost’ with a new macabre appearance in No Rancho Fundo. After disappearing several times throughout the novel and returning as if nothing had happened, the Leonel’s relative will come very close to death — and will resurface shortly afterwards. Not only will he escape with his life, but he will also appear dirty and bloody at Zefa’s house (Andrea Beltrão) in the middle of the night.

The trickster will beg for help from his relative, who will provide him with shelter and protection. Additionally, the place will serve as an environment for the characters to discuss ways to find out who was responsible for having him kidnapped. Timbo (Enrique Diaz), who will be visiting the protagonist, will suggest that Esperança’s father (Andréa Bak) pretend to be dead.

He will believe that the person responsible for the attack may have given away some clue as to his identity. At the end, the strategy will prove to be correct. A confusion at the man’s supposed wake will end up causing Tico Leonel (Alexandre Nero) discover that Jordão Nicácio (Alejandro Claveaux) shot Cicero during the kidnapping.

Zefa’s husband (Andrea Beltrão) will call Timbó, and the two will confront the shooter to find out who ordered the crime. It will take him a while to admit that Deodora (Debora Bloch) pressured him to kill the man.

It will be because of the shot, in fact, that he will knock on Zefa’s door in this Wednesday’s chapter (23). The woman will wake up scared by the noise, and will even reach for the shotgun to check what it is.

“Who could it be… At a time like this? Calm down, pestilence! Damn hurry…”, she will mutter. When she sees her relative, the gold digger will almost fall over hard. “Cousin Cícero!”, she will exclaim, surprised. Terrified, sweaty and bruised, the man will beg for shelter.

“Zefa Leonel, my cousin! Help me! They tried to kill me!”, he will say. From there, the plan to discover the mastermind will begin.
